First Signs Of A Twin Pregnancy

Most often when a woman becomes pregnant with twins, she will find that she is experiencing some of the same symptoms that she would be if she were only pregnant with one child. However, the difference may be that she finds that the symptoms are a little stronger than they would be if she were only carrying one baby.
There are many signs that a woman may experience early on in her pregnancy and all will vary from one woman to the next. While it is difficult to say which symptoms will appear with each pregnancy, here are some of the most common that others have experienced when they first learn that they are pregnant.
1. MORNING SICKNESS
This is one of the most common ailments of a woman who is pregnant. However, for a woman who is pregnant with twins, she may find that her morning sickness is stronger than what it would be if she were only pregnant with one child. If you find that you are having severe morning sickness, this could be a sign that you are pregnant with more than one baby.
One thing to note in regards to morning sickness is that it does not always appear in the morning, contrary to popular belief. In fact, many women find that it can occur at any point in the day.

2. FATIGUE

During the first trimester, it is common for a woman to feel fatigued because her body is still adjusting to carrying her baby and is busy growing some of the most important items that will help keep her baby healthy as it grows. However, for women who are pregnant with twins, they may find that the fatigue that they experience is even greater.
It is common for women who are pregnant with twins to feel as though they want nothing more than to sleep and rest. Since she is growing two babies, her body is being forced to work overtime to make sure that the babies have everything that they need to be healthy.

3. EXTRA WEIGHT GAIN

Because a woman is pregnant with twins, this means that she needs more room to care for them. Rapid weight gain occurs frequently early on in a pregnancy and can be a sign that you are pregnant with twins.
You should expect to gain between five and ten pounds during the first few weeks of a pregnancy with twins. Overall, a mother who gives birth to twins may gain between 35 and 45 pounds. This is caused by the increased size of the uterus and the additional blood flow that is needed for the twins.

4. MORE THAN ONE HEARTBEAT

For women who are pregnant, one of the most exciting things to hear is the sound of the baby’s heartbeat. However, for women who are pregnant with twins, you can expect to hear two of them thumping when you reach week 12. This is when the sounds will first be able to be noticed by a Doppler Monitor.
If you have an ultrasound early on, you may even be able to see a double set of embryos by week 12, but this may be difficult if you have a technician that is fairly unskilled.

5. LARGE MEASUREMENTS

Women who are pregnant are always measured at their doctor’s visit. This helps determine if the mother is progressing properly through her pregnancy and is on track to give birth as expected. However, for a woman who is pregnant with twins, she should find that her measurements are much larger than a woman who is pregnant with only a single baby.

6. CONCLUSION

When a woman is pregnant with twins, it is likely that she will experience more and stronger symptoms than she would if she were only pregnant with one child. However, it is difficult to say what symptoms you may experience because everyone reacts differently to a pregnancy.
Your doctor will be able to determine if you are pregnant with twins and will help you determine the additional treatment steps that must take place in order to make sure that you are being cared for properly if you find that you are pregnant with twins. For this reason, prenatal care is vital to the health of both you and your twins.
